ABSTRACT

Solar driven hydrogen generation from water electrolysis is a key target for the development of sustainable hydrogen economy for future energy systems. Design and development of nanostructure of ZnO assemblies has gained significant scientific interest and has become the most studied material as it exhibits promising functional properties for high efficiency in photoelectrochemical water electrolysis application. Comprehensive investigations on different synthesis parameters, such as composition of electrolyte, time, and heat treatment temperature to control the specific nano-architecture of ZnO photoanode are discussed in detail in this chapter. The chapter also reviews the researches that have been carried out to further improve the solar driven hydrogen generation via metal-modified, polyaniline-modified, carbon-modified and semiconductor-modified ZnO.
