ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the systematic lessons learned knowledge (SyLLK) model as a tool that can assist an organisation in identifying what is required to mobilise integrated project delivery capability. It demonstrates how thinking systemically about organisations through the use of the SyLLK model can be valuable in identifying what is required to facilitate integrated project delivery (IPD) capability. The chapter provides an overview of key terms in systems and systems thinking. It examines the continental perspective of project managing that established the concept of organisations as equipmental totalities with in-order-tos and that projectyness is the experience brought about by having our inherent capabilities stretched. Complex should not be considered an extension of complicated, as the behaviour of complex systems can only be forecast based on a probability. The chapter discusses the facilitators required to realise the quality of collective trust, which is central to IPD.
