ABSTRACT

The Health Functional Foods Act is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), and each of its laws is managed functionally by the various departments in MFDS. Functional ingredients are classified into announced and individually approved. Functional ingredients include food materials widely recognised to be functional such as red ginseng and green tea. The functionalities are classified into both the disease risk reduction function and the bioactive function, depending on the effect. There are nutritional ingredients that could cause nutritional imbalance due to overeating. Good manufacturing practice certification was established and operated in order to organically and systematically manage the manufacture of health functional food (HFF). The education and training for the excellent HFF manufacturing standard guideline is aimed at public officials in charge of the field. The education and training courses are carried out through specialised and systematic education programmes, and it appoints excellent manpower as the director.
