ABSTRACT

Research on the herbal drugs of the traditional Indian system of medicine are become very popular worldwide, and many scientists of modern medicine and other biological science desire to pursue clinical research with these agents. Therapy with herbal drugs for the prevention, control and cure of several diseases is a worldwide practice. In India, it has been popular since time immemorial. There are an enormous number of medicinal plants in India used by different traditional and classical practitioners for the purpose of treatment of different diseases or symptoms of diseases. There are number of drugs in modern medicine that may cause hepatotoxicity. Statin is one such drug that is used as a lipid-lowering agent in cardiovascular disease, which may cause hepatotoxicity due to elevation of serum aminotransaminase levels. Clinical trials of single or multi-ingredient herbal drug formulations and the study of herb–herb interaction is an important issue for new formulations.
