ABSTRACT

The deteriorations of highway bridge concrete slabs constructed during the high economic growth period have become apparent. One of the efficient maintenance measures is to replace these slabs into new slabs. However, there is an obstacle that renewal work causes heavy traffic due to lane regulation for the replacing slabs. In addition, design standard has been revised due to increasing live load. Therefore, we need to develop new lighter slabs which has adequate strength for current standard, and develop efficient construction methods. From these reasons, in order to develop the precast panels using Ultra high strength fiber reinforced concrete (hereafter UFC) that are lighter than existing concrete slabs and the new connection system using perfobond strip shear connector between panels and steel girders, following several experiments were conducted. In this research, the behavior and durability of new panels and the connection systems were discussed.
