ABSTRACT

This study proposes the future life cycle cost evaluation method, in which the future performance degradation models are adopted to estimate the future maintenance cost and the expected loss due to the bridge safety. A procedure to adjust the future performance degradation model is proposed based on the bridge inspection records and considering the site environments. The basic degradation model is adopted from the previous research results, which are developed through the regression works with many local bridge inspection records. When the previous inspection records are not available, the current performance level is the only information to adjust the degradation model. The effect of previous inspection records is examined in the study. The expected loss in LCC is estimated through the reliability evaluation based on the local traffic load effect evaluation and the future performance degradation model. The case study has been performed with a PSC girder highway bridge.
