ABSTRACT

This paper presents the idea of correlating vehicle lengths extracted from images with weights from Weigh-in-motion (WIM) data. The purpose of this is the estimation of traffic loading on long-span bridges. WIM data from a motorway in Poland containing four months of records, is used to develop the length-weight correlation. As WIM data may contain some errors, a cleaning algorithm is applied to create a reliable database. Monte Carlo simulation is used to show the correlation. A sample of random traffic is simulated and a bootstrapping method is used to verify the correlation approach.
