ABSTRACT

To identify the in common problems, future needs, and reveal the relationship between the age, design life, and status of long span bridges on an international scale, a global long span bridge survey was conducted and database constructed. From which, the details of location, construction and status per bridge were broken down and analysed to identify any potential relationships, or correlations, between the numerous categories of information recorded for each long span bridge. Analysis concluded that age and bridge type selection of most long span bridges within the North American region has resulted in rare achievement of design life objectives. The global long span bridge database is searchable, organisable, available in several formats, and is a strong foundation for further expansion and detail.
