ABSTRACT

In Japan, a great number of short and medium span bridges is managed by local government on a limited budget and limited number of expert engineers. More reasonable and efficient than conventional visual inspection or monitoring systems methods of the condition assessment have been needed. Therefore, a method of the condition assessment system based on monitoring data from public bus vibration was developed for existing short span (10m~20m span length) RC bridges. Due to the fact that this system is only composed of an acceleration sensor and a manual operation data collection system, a reasonable and efficient automatic data collection system is considered. In this paper, a method of automatic data collection system using GPS sensor is proposed. This system which is installed on the public bus changes a manual and non-efficient operation into an automatic and low cost one.
