ABSTRACT

Monitoring structures is one of the main fields of structural engineering in the future. Monitoring project have many challenges. It requires more skills and more knowledge from all partners involved in the monitoring project. In the past, it has been difficult to see monitoring as a project. The roles have been unclear in monitoring process, results have not been so clear for decision makers. The purchaser of monitoring has not been able to get the information he thought he would get. And the monitoring costs have been a surprise. But the fact is that monitoring costs are reducing all the time and the results are greatly just as good as the purchaser himself knows how to buy these services. In Finland to help purchasers to build a successful project a Bridge Monitoring Guide was introduced in 2016.
