ABSTRACT

Many projects are in progress to enhance the current capabilities of Bridge Management Systems (BMSs). This paper investigates the BMS from its expectations relating to transparent policy, decision support and improved organizational work to its core components including inventory database, inspection and condition rating, deterioration models, cost and optimization models, and risk assessment. Major features and capabilities of different bridge management systems in the world are presented and the gaps in the current systems have been identified.
