ABSTRACT

The present paper deals with the current status of research activities on the assessment of fatigue tests in order to review detail categories of EC3-1-9. Statistical methods which have been used for a detail classification are outlined shortly. The concept of a well-structured SQL supported data base is presented, which is intended to comprise all known fatigue test series relevant for a fatigue detail classification in the future. Subsequently, an exemplary fatigue evaluation of a longitudinal weld detail is presented. After the selection of expressive fatigue tests series, these have been evaluated for a detail classification by considering the prediction as well as the tolerance interval. Additionally, influences of failure criterion, component size, mean stress and boundary conditions are discussed. The results show, that the selected series partially exhibit distinctively higher fatigue resistances as currently incorporated in Eurocode regulations. Finally, first preliminary numerical simulations for future fatigue tests are presented.
