ABSTRACT

Within structure management, the non-formal assessment where the structural condition is evaluated on the base of visual inspections takes place at most. The objective of the structural condition assessment is to determine its current state and to assume the future performance of a structure with a maximum of accuracy and a minimum of effort. Therefore, advanced methodologies and deterioration predictive models for the assessment of structure/structural element over time are needed. Data collected during visual inspection should mainly provide the information about the most serious problems and suggest most suitable scheme of extension the inspection by monitoring, additional on-site measurements and/or laboratory tests. These should provide more realistic information about the input parameter values, when using modeling of degradation processes for prediction of future condition of the structure. The aim of this contribution is to describe the process of possible calibration of input parameters for prediction of deterioration due to chloride ion ingress into concrete with the emphasis on model based assessment.
