ABSTRACT

To investigate the effect of corrosion pit on fatigue damage evolution of welded joints, specimens of full-penetration inclined cruciform (FIC) welded joints with artificial corrosion pits were designed and fatigue tests of three kinds of welded joints in different corrosion depth were carried out. Based on fracture mechanics theory and maximum circumferential tensile stress criterion, crack propagation rate formula of FIC welded joints were derived with different corrosion pit. Research results showed that fatigue lives obtained from crack propagation rate formula have a good agreement with test results.
