ABSTRACT

The nutrition prescription is one of the most important components of lifestyle intervention. When prescribing nutritional lifestyle intervention, it is important for the practitioner to take into account the various cultural and social factors involved in dietary habits. The challenge to teaching good nutrition to anyone is that the message isn’t flashy. A coaching approach built on a solid coach-client relationship can promote positive behavioral change as it relates to nutrition. Group medical visits can be a cost-efficient and productive tool to implement nutritional prescription within a lifestyle medicine program. Micronutrients, or the small building blocks of our nutrition intake, are all the vitamins and minerals. When one embarks on changing their behavior related to nutrition in a more healthful direction, there are some nutrients that can help. Optimal nutrition intervention is the cornerstone of an effective lifestyle medicine prescription. One way to provide efficient, cost-effective nutritional counseling is through group medical visits.
