ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the smart delivery of nanoparticulate nanocarriers such as nanoparticle, nanoemulsion, nanocapsule, nanogels, nanomedicines, dendrimers, liposome, grapheme, carbon nanotube, etc., and its applications in drug delivery. Nanoparticles are having long circulating time, therapeutic activity and reaches to the active site with appropriate concentration are called as "low-hanging fruit" of nanotechnology-based drug delivery system. Solid lipid nanoparticles, nano-structured lipid carriers and lipid drug conjugates are types of carrier systems-based on solid lipid matrix, for example, lipids solid at the body temperature. Magnetic nanoparticles can be easily handled with the help of external magnetic field, the possibility of using passive and active drug delivery strategies. Nanogels are nanoscalar polymer networks which imbibe water when placed into an aqueous environment. Cadmium selenide nano particles in the form of quantum dots are used in detection of cancer tumors because when exposed to ultraviolet light, they glow.
