ABSTRACT

The prevalence of sensitization varies in different geographies and different populations (Sunyer et al., 2004). The prevalence also varies depending on the allergen being evaluated and whether the studies are being done in the community or in diseased subjects in the hospital. Few studies have shown an increase in the prevalence of sensitization over time, though the exact reasons for such an increase is not clear (Warm et al., 2013). India has among the highest sensitization rates in the world (Mahesh PA et al., 2016). Table 1.1 lists the prevalence of sensitization in different countries. The summary of the key factors involved in the epidemiology of sensitization is listed in Figure 1.1.
