ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the properties displayed by hierarchical naming schemes that can possibly be used for Information-Centric Networks (ICN). ICN changes the point of focus and importance from the server to the data itself that is being requested. In a network that follows the concept of ICN, the data that is being requested is considered to be an object called a data object and is given a name which helps users of the Internet to identify the object. In the ICN paradigm, the focus is shifting from the server providing the data/information to the information itself. The advantage of the attribute-based naming scheme is that it utilizes the observation of querying for objects using keywords and attempts to generate a name using the same principle. The flat naming scheme is a group of naming schemes that are the subject of a lot of focus in the space of ICN naming.
