ABSTRACT

Cable-stayed bridges are complex structures which need to be monitored during service life. Requirements for monitoring vary between different owners and indicate what their main worries with respect to such bridges. On the basis of previous experiences some unified policies are being proposed to define monitoring requirements after taking into account not only the variables which may be more relevant to the structural behavior but also those whose possible changes during service life are more significant. The structural parameters which are being considered are related to deck and cables vibrations, deck displacements and deck and pylons temperatures.
