ABSTRACT
The paper presents the Initial Inspections and the recommendations for the Monitoring Plan of Rio-Niterói bridge, that was set up in 2015 for the new concession of the bridge. The bridge is one of the most important in the world, and has many peculiar characteristics that make it a unique example of high level engineering. The Initial Inspection that was carried out took into account every kind of element of the structure and was useful to define every monitoring action that has to be made on the bridge to assess its health conditions during time. The work has the primary purpose of giving a powerful tool to the Manager of the bridge in order to establish its actual health condition and the annual cost of management and intervention. Moreover, it gives useful indications on the optimization of the works of refurbishment that need to be made.
