ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to draw a diagnosis of the state of conservation of the different layers and parts of the mural, adapted to the needs of the painting towards its future preservation, and contributing to guarantee the dissemination and promotion of this cultural asset as a symbol of collective identity. The conservation issues affecting the mural were determined through the analysis and evaluation of the different in situ studies that took place in April, 2011. The assessment of the state of conservation of the work "Allegory to work" revealed that, due to the great amount and extent of the damage on the painting, it showed signs of structural instability and a poor state of conservation in all of its layers, both the preliminary and the pictorial surfaces. The different phases of recording and analysis on the mural have proved that, its state of conservation is worrying due to the frequent and serious damage and aggressions.
