ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the technical processes and the decision making of the data collection and intervention campaigns carried out in the mural "Allegory to work." The work was submitted to different restoration processes that prevented its complete destruction, but contributed to hiding the existing original painting in large surfaces. The restoration process of the mural painting was structured in phases, solved by a team of eight technicians, in an established timing, generating and contributing to close collaboration between Uruguay and Spain. The restoration tasks work carried out in the "Allegory to work" imply the starting point to the approach of new projects and interventions in the Uruguayan mural national heritage, thus promoting the interpretation and valuation of the country's cultural identity. The restoration of the mural painting must be the starting point of new activities aimed to promote new models of heritage management, based on sustainable development through the management of mural assets.
