ABSTRACT

With the development of science and technology, using ships as the main transportation for the sea, route planning and weather routing become increasingly important. Ship weather routing provides the optimal routing for the ship based on predicted weather information, the state of the sea, and the ship’s condition. This research uses wave data to achieve weather routing based on a modified genetic algorithm. Instead of using roulette wheel selection, the genetic algorithm uses a modified selection operator to achieve the goal of converging quickly and finding a better route. At the end, simulations are made to illustrate the result that the meteorological navigation time obtained by using a modified genetic algorithm is less than that using a traditional genetic algorithm.
