ABSTRACT

Small-signal stability constraints should be considered in reactive power optimisation. A model of small-signal stability is constructed according to electromechanical oscillation modes. The objective function of reactive power optimisation is composed of system active power loss and small-signal stability index, with the former reduced and the latter enhanced by modifying related control parameters. Furthermore, improved Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) was taken advantage of when optimising the operative power. Testing examples reveals that the goal of reactive power optimisation can be efficiently reached from the proposed algorithm, and the power system will operate in a safe, economic and stable manner.
