ABSTRACT

With the rapid development of wireless communication technology, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) positioning technology has gained in importance. The research on indoor positioning technology in complex environments has received much attention in recent years. In this paper, the accuracy of the Two-Way Ranging (TWR) algorithm depends on the time synchronisation of the ranging nodes. Therefore, the Symmetrical Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging (SDS-TWR) method is adopted to reduce the requirement of high precision time synchronisation for ranging nodes. The influence of antenna height, pulse repetition rate, signal centre frequency and bandwidth on the accuracy of the SDS-TWR method based on UWB has all been studied by the experiment. Experimental results show that appropriate installation position, suitable height of antenna, high UWB pulse repetition rate, high UWB centre frequency and wide bandwidth conditions all lead to a high ranging accuracy, whose ranging error is less than 10 cm. The SDS-TWR method based on UWB in the complex environment shows an excellent ranging performance.
