A method to measure the dynamic ship draft by adopting ultrasonic diffraction effect is proposed in the view of the current state of detection technology for ship draft: the depth data of ship cross section is obtained using the diffraction effect produced by dynamic ship’s occlusion of the ultrasonic transmission path under the water. Through the synchronous control of emitter array as well as receiving array and the data processing method of corresponding diffraction curve fitting, the real-time draft value of dynamic ship is measured. And according to the method mentioned above, the detection system for dynamic ship draft is developed on the basis of ultrasonic diffraction effect. The system is verified in a pool with the length of 25 meters, and the measurement precision of underwater standard occlusion is 0.02 m; during the measurement of dynamic ship in the gate of Gezhouba Dam ship lock, the contrast difference between the draft measured and the water gauge of ship reaches to 0.1 m, which proves that the system and data processing method are practical and effective.
