ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by reviewing partitioning and assignment of logic elements. In the partitioning process, the logic diagram is partitioned into logic elements or groups of logic elements that are used to select electronic modules which perform the desired functions. As the cost to provide skilled technicians to locate and repair inoperative elements increases, the size of the economical throwaway module increases. The layout process is the link between the development of the circuit logic and the development of the conditions necessary for the system to be physically realized. Producibility is a measure of how well the final layout adapts to the manufacturing and assembly technologies available for production. Electronic systems are typically made up of a large number of devices that are arranged into subassemblies. Partitioning is the separation of electrical functions and their assignment to various building blocks to satisfy the design requirements.
