I. INTRODUCTION High voltage is widely used in equipment and in the testing of power apparatus. The types of high voltage in use can be classified as (a) ac (b) dc and (c) pulse voltages. Some examples of equipment in which high voltage dc is employed are
Gas lasers (several kV) Electron microscopes and x-ray units (—100 kV) Electrostatic precipitators, accelerators (MV)
ac high voltages are used in the testing of power apparatus insulation, in the generation of high dc voltages, in air pollution control in discharges, and elsewhere.
