ABSTRACT

High-performance backbone networks will stimulate future new multimedia services. This chapter describes services and broadband network applications. The most important applications are Internet protocol (IP) services, voice and telephony service, real time video transfer, and data transfer. An algorithm to solve the large-scale nonlinear mathematical programming formulation of a proposed model is developed. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme finds an optimal virtual path management that establishes a tradeoff between the conflicting attributes of asynchronous transfer mode technologies. The proposed algorithm decides when a new MPEG source should begin to transmit based on its notification parameters and traffic measurement of ongoing connections. It is shown that the proposed algorithm can provide good Quality of Service and improve network utilization. The layer3 switch enables to rapidly transmit IP datagrams using the cut-through technique.
