ABSTRACT

Over the last three decades, video games have evolved from an obscure pastime into a force of change that is transforming the way people perceive, learn about, and interact with the world around them. According to the NPD Group, currently more than 100 million consoles are present in U.S. households,* and an estimated 63% of the US population plays video games with 51% of players playing games on at least a weekly basis (ESA 2008). Beyond pure entertainment, video games are increasingly used for more serious applications such as education, health, and rehabilitation.
