ABSTRACT

This section presents techniques for the optimal selection and location of instruments in process grassroot designs as well as in retrot scenarios to perform data gathering for control and monitoring, as well as fault detection and online optimization. The main goal is usually to minimize the instrumentation investment cost subject to performance constraints. Some of these constraints are as follows:

1. The network and the associated software should be able to obtain estimators of measured and unmeasured variables with certain accuracy (given precision and bias free) for monitoring and control purposes.
