ABSTRACT
There are many variables that must be optimized in any engineering applications. Reliability should be one of those variables. Depending on the application, failures in an automation system can result in human injury or loss of life. In some applications, automation system failure can result in severe negative environmental as well as signicant economic impacts. Given this importance, a good understanding of the attributes of reliability is needed.
