ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the design procedures used in the design of fuzzy controllers for the velocity control of a dc motor. It discusses more about membership functions and fuzzy rules and reviews some fundamental fuzzy logic concepts and operations and then applies the fuzzy logic technique for a dc motor control system to demonstrate the fuzzy control design procedure. Fuzzy control is considered an intelligent control technique and has been shown to yield promising results for many applications that are difficult to be handled by conventional techniques. The combination of membership functions requires some form of set operations. The fuzzy logic counterparts to these operations are similar to those of conventional set theory. The purpose of defuzzification is to convert the results of the rules and membership functions into usable values, whether it is a specific result or a control input.
