ABSTRACT

Advancement in wireless technologies and mobile computing enables mobile users to benet from disparate wireless networks such as wireless personal area networks (WPANs), wireless local area networks (WLANs), wireless metropolitan area networks (WMANs), wireless wide area networks (WWANs) that use mobile telecommunication cellular network technologies such as Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WIMAX), Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), code division multiple access 2000 (CDMA2000), Global System for Mobile communications (GSM), Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD), Mobitex, HighSpeed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), or third generation (3G) to transfer data. On the other hand, mobile nodes (MNs) are equipped with multimode radio interfaces so that they can perform roaming among these different access
