ABSTRACT

Symbolic circuit analysis, simply stated, is a term that describes the process of studying the behavior of electrical circuits using symbols instead of, or in conjunction with, numerical values. The idea of symbolic circuit analysis is not new; engineers and scientists have been using the process to study circuits since the inception of the concept of circuits. Traditional symbolic circuit analysis is performed in the frequency domain where the results are in terms of the frequency variable s. Several methodologies exist to perform symbolic analysis in the frequency domain. The major advantage of having a symbolic expression in that form is the insight that can be gained by observing the terms in both the numerator and the denominator. The numeric part can then be solved using any number of standard techniques and recombined with the extracted symbolic part. The sequence of expressions generation process starts with the formulation of a symbolic Modified Node Admittance Matrix for a circuit.
