ABSTRACT

A major fraction of ceramic devices containing small-diameter dielectric vias and/or fine-line conductors are prepared using the screen-printing process. Screen-printing technology, as applied to image generation, is an ancient art. A unique feature of photochemistry is that energy put into a molecule can be controlled by selection of the wavelength of the irradiating light. The combination of photochemistry and polymerization science has resulted in the development of photopolymerization technology. The technology elements discussed in the previous section, ceramic solids and inorganic binder, are necessary to achieve the needed hermetic, electrical, and other physical properties required for electrical applications. The functionality of the photocurable element and the acid-containing polymer binder can be combined into a photocurable or reactive binder polymer or oligomer, and is widely reported in the patent literature. The line resolution and placement accuracy of the photo-curable pastes in this application can be used to generate more pixels per square unit of panel, resulting in improved picture quality.
