ABSTRACT

In this review, we describe some of our recent contributions related to the nonlinear localization of vibrational energy and electric charge in spatially discrete systems. We present some results concerning a polaronic charge transport mechanism in a DNA model, as well as on the existence and stability of polarobreathers solutions in the Peyrard–Bishop–Holstein model. Also, we review a lattice model for a neutral exciton (bound state of an electron and a hole) in a nanoring structure, and show that this neutral entity exhibits Aharonov–Bohm (AB) oscillations when the system is immersed in a magnetic field. Our results indicate a route to enhancing the possibility of experimental verification of the excitonic AB effect.
