ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: An experimental method to investigate dynamic crack growth in elastomers is developed. It considers the propagation of a crack in a “pure shear” sample. Both pre-cutting extension step and fracture step are recorded with high resolution and high speed cameras, respectively. The evolution of crack speed along its travel throughout the sample is precisely measured. Using high precision digital image correlation measurement, the method allows to accurately compute kinematic fields, e.g. velocity and acceleration, during crack growth.
