ABSTRACT

262New strategies for industrial world have to be developed to improve the thermal behavior of fluids used in crystallizer for energy conservation and thermal management. Generally cold water is used to cool the crystallizer so as to get product in crystal form. This investigation on crystallization operation by adding three different volume concentrations 1.0, 2, and 3% (V/V) of copper oxide nanoparticles in base fluid (distilled water) of size 45.46 nm synthesized by chemical precipitation method. The effect of nonionic surfactants Rokanol K7 (500 ppm) on crystallization operation was also investigated and it was observed that the heat transfer coefficient increases rapidly with surfactants. Maximum enhancements in the heat transfer were achieved using about 3 wt % copper oxide based nanofluids; however, a decreasing variation was observed at higher concentrations. The mathematical model has been developed by dimensional analysis followed by interpretation and the quantitative analysis of the model. For the objective of modeling, the experimental results obtained from crystallizer were validated with mathematical modeling for calculation of reliability of model. The reliability of mathematical model is obtained as 82.72, 83.75, and 86.51% for 1, 2, and 3% nanofluids, respectively, which shows its indicator of performance.
