ABSTRACT

The mulberry tree, a typical plant of genus Morus, has been widely cultivated for its leaves that serve as an indispensable food for silkworm. There are about 3,000 accessions of mulberry germplasm resources in China. Of which, over 60 accessions can be used as the mulberry fruit (Li, 2005). Some varieties introduced from mid-Asia have white fruit. Mulberry has been used as medicine from ancient times. The root bark and mulberry leaves have been used as herbal medicine (Machii, 1989). The mulberry fruit contains polysaccharides, organic acids, free amino acids, vitamins, micronutrients and other components (Elmaci, 2002).
