ABSTRACT

Vs30. Site class D has Vs30 from 175 m/s to 360 m/s. Pile foundations are commonly used for bridges in this site class. This study focused on the most commonly occurring soil classes C and D which are suitable for both shallow as well as deep foundations and are characterized by a wide variation in Vs30 (175-760 m/s), PI (0-60), OCR (1-10) and σ’ (20-1500 kPa). It is to be noted that AASHTO site classes C and D roughly corresponds to EC-8 soil classes B and C respectively (CEN, 2003).
