ABSTRACT

Among the international studies on the layout of feeder bus lines, Vuchic (2005) provided internationally recognized methodologies to determine the structure of feeder bus network according to the maximum passenger transport demand. Martins and Pato (1998) established the optimal number of feeder bus lines for urban rail transit systems and the methods or algorithms for laying them. Kuan et al. (2006) introduced the heuristic genetic algorithm to solve the complex N-P problem concerning feeder bus network optimization. Verma and Dhingra (2005) formulated an optimization model of line layout to account for the integration of rail transit and feeder line operations. Wiasinghe

1 INTRODUCTION

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) can be defined as that with a large capacity and high speed, similar to those of rail transit. It is also as flexible and cheap as regular bus transit, so it is widely used throughout the world (2013). Between 2004 and 2014, 23  major cities in China established and implemented 40 BRT corridors, reaching a total length of 2761 km (2014).
