A study on residential area’s adaptability design for the aged in China based on open building theory

In 1980s, open building was proposed by Stephen Kendall (Fig.  1), who studied with John Habraken in MIT. After that, this theory went through a long-term complement investigation and gained the great influence via OHI (Open House International) and Open Building Foundation’s promotion. In the last tens of years, housing construction in many countries got boost based on open building theory.
