ABSTRACT

Central South University, China was used for the testing. Two sets of bridge model were tested, the first one as the control model and the second one with superelastic SMA restrainers. The previous test of large-scale has either neglected the spatial variation of the ground motions or pounding effects at bridge joints. Therefore, the results from the experiment have significant value on mitigating the relative displacement induced damages, such as pounding and unseating, on the extended bridges subjected to spatially varying ground motions.
