ABSTRACT

The attached substructures to form dual structural system could be structural walls, oblique bracings and rocking walls. Relevant studies mainly focus at the structural nonlinear dynamic response and damage characteristic, simplified elastic methods are most commonly used for design (Wang, P.S et al. 1996, Wang, D.S et al. 2010,). Therefore, a practical stiffness iteration design method based on the nonlinear static analysis to obtain the optimal stiffness demand of the lateral load resisting members in each story is proposed to promote the application of dual structural system.
