ABSTRACT

In recent years, external confinement of concrete columns by Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) has become increasingly popular in the construction industry (Youssf et al. 2015a, Youssf et al. 2016). Many experimental studies have proven that the seismic resistance of conventional concrete columns can be significantly improved by addition of FRP confinement, due to its high tensile stiffness and strength (Liu & Sheikh 2013, Haroun & Elsanadedy 2005). The effectiveness of using FRP in retaining the axial capacity of the CRC column in addition to the urgent need for recycling the worn out vehicle tyres adds motivation to increase the amount of recycled rubber used in concrete.
