ABSTRACT

In this paper, the potentials of the EWA methodology are examined for a probabilistic assessment of offshore jacket type platforms under extreme waves. Ability to consider the progressively deteriorating nature of the sea conditions during an extreme storm event, to incorporate waves of different heights and frequencies in a single non-linear dynamic analysis, taking into account the irregularity and randomness of the sea waves and requiring relatively short-term simulation are among advantages offered by EWA. It can provide a deep insight into the nonlinear behaviour of an offshore structure and is able to consider different damage indices for evaluating the structural performance.
