ABSTRACT

The bored pile formed wall was constructed to support slope excavation. Fig. 1 shows schematic sketch of the bored piles. As depicted in the figure, 33 bored piles formed the retaining wall with a diameter of 3.0 m and spacing 3.5 m c/c from BP1 to BP20 and 3.3 m c/c from BP20 to BP33. A capping beam was also constructed with the dimension of 2 m high and 3 m wide in order to restrain the rotation and movement of pile heads. Three piles marked in the figure (i.e. named BP5, BP19 and BP28) were monitored by using fiber optic sensing technology. The monitoring work started on 6 June, 2011 and subsequently readings have been taken during major excavation.
