ABSTRACT

The durability and survivability of PZT was explored during various experimental conditions, and during the high-strain tests PZT remained operational up to at least 3000 με and failed beyond 6000 με (Lin and Giurgiutiu, 2010). However, Qing pointed out that the amplitude of guided wave received by PZT remains unchanged before the applied strain is smaller than the PZT elongation (about 1000 με), whereas the degradation occurs when the strain exceeds (Qing et al., 2009). That is, PZT has a high reliability only when the strain of PZT location does not exceed the PZT elongation. In order to ensure the durability and reliability of SHM system, it is essential to give a strategy to solve high-strain bearing ability of piezoelectric transducer.
