ABSTRACT

In this paper, we examine the response of CFT in the context of large deformations. We investigate the strength, ductility, geometrical anomalies, and failure modes for different ranges of slenderness. We develop a finite element model based on the multi-purpose software Abaqus, which offers a wide range of constitutive models capable of predicting the behaviour of steel and concrete. We first validate the model using the experimental results Elchalakani et al. (2000) then we identify the thresholds where a transition from compact to slender behaviour takes place.
